Abengoa
Brief Background
Abengoa was founded in Seville, Spain, in 1941. Up until 1996, it operated as an Engineering
company encompassing different activities.
Today, Abengoa is a technology-based company that applies innovative solutions for the
sustainable development of the infrastructure, environmental and energy sectors. It is present in
more than 70 countries, where it operates with its five Business Groups: Solar, Bio-energy,
Environmental Services, Information Technology and Industrial Engineering and Construction.
Abengoa Brasil
Brief Background
Abengoa Brasil was created in March 2001, with the objective of participating in Transmission
Line Concession projects.
Initially, the company had a 25% interest in Expansão Transmissão de Energia Elétrica S.A.,
detainer of the concession of the 500 kV Samambaia – Emborcação, Samambaia – Itumbiara
and Itumbiara – Maribondo Transmission Lines and, subsequently, a 50% interest in NTE –
Nordeste Transmissora de Energia S.A., 500 kV Transmission Line interconnecting the Xingo
– Angelim and Angelim – Campina Grande Substations.
Abengoa Brasil’s third investment, also with a 50% interest, was STE – Sul
Transmissora de Energia S.A., in the South of Brazil, with a 230 kV, 389 km long line (Uruguaiana
– Maçambará – Santo Ângelo – Santa Rosa), connecting the Uruguaiana
Thermoelectric Plant to the Santo Angelo substation, where there is an interconnection to the
Argentine electric system, by means of the CIEN project.
ETIM was Abengoa’s fourth investment, with a 25% interest in the 500 kV, 212 km long
Itumbiara – Marimbondo lines, which represents the interconnection of an additional
hydroelectric plant, Marimbondo, in the North – South system.
As of 2004, Abengoa has invested in 100% interest in projects such as: ATE Transmissora de
Energia S.A. (Londrina – Assis and Assis – Araraquara), ATE II Transmissora de Energia
S.A. () and ATE III Transmissora de Energia S.A. (). These projects are already in the Operation
and Maintenance phases.
In addition, Abengoa Brasil also started to operate in the development of new businesses,
participating in private sector bids, servicing companies such as: Vale Sul and MMX.

do Iguaçu Norte).
