ATE II takes Environmental Education to Rural Communities in Brazil
Teacher Silvanete, from Santa Clara Settlement School, in Canto do Buriti, on Piaui State, has attended the class of environmental technicians from ATE II Energy Transmitter, company from Abengoa Brasil.
The rural settlement is located a few meters away from the Transmission line Colinas-Sobradinho, constructed and operated by ATE II. The undertaking allows the transfer of part of the energy generated at North and Southwest regions to Northeast of the country.
The theme of the environmental workshop was related to the daily life of the audience, formed by settlement inhabitants, among which we found educators, students and rural producers. All of them were interested to get to know better the sustainable agriculture practices.
The purpose was to promote the dialogue about this production system, as a way to minimize fire usage in land cleaning, mainly close to the transmission lines.
Silvenete thought the initiative was very important and guaranteed she would retransmit information to others.
The same attitude was assumed by teacher Manuel da Cruz, who lives in Ouricuri community in the city of Casa Nova, in Bahia state. He took part of the fourth Environmental Education Campaign of ATE II in that region and he was so motivated that he decided to organize the event "Clean Days", directed to country workers.
"The outcome is positive. We have noticed the interesting and comprehension of the subject "environment" has increased; as well as the accomplishment of assumed agreements; the respect and good relationship among different groups; the social and cultural valorization involving people from 6 to 60 years old and the repudiation to devastation and environment harmful practices"- states Manuel.
Abengoa Brasil supported the initiative, by donating t-shirts and caps to be distributed among participants.
