Abengoa Brasil signs partnership with Senai

Abengoa Brasil is facing a common challenge in the infrastructure sector: the shortage of skilled labor. The company was granted approximately 7,000 km of lines, of which, 4,500 km are under construction. The difficulty in filling vacancies for specialized functions such as the erection of steel structures and launching cables, for example, has led companies to invest in training for their own staff and to promote the training of external labor.

The company signed a partnership with SENAI (National Industrial Apprenticeship Service), an institution dedicated to worker qualification for industry, to develop the "Transmission Line Structure Assembly" course".

Held in Rio de Janeiro in August, the course attracted the interest of those who seek opportunities to enter the electricity market, as well as those who already operate in the segment and wish to hone their knowledge. This is the case of Abengoa Construção Brasil employees that work in projects in the south and northeast of the country.

"I am in charge of an assembly group that operates the Dona Francisca – Santa Maria transmission line in Rio Grande do Sul. I’ve learned techniques that I didn’t know existed and now feel much better trained for this task", says Elian da Silva Pereira.

The manager of Linha Verde Transmissora de Energia, Aloísio de Araújo, is confident in the results of this initiative. "We are building the 987 km-long Jauru (MT) – Porto Velho (RO) C3 line, 230 kV. We expect to hire 1,800 employees. My expectation is to absorb some of these new people being trained, and that our employees taking classes at SENAI disseminate what they have learned", says Aloísio.
